Hey all, i am having some difficulty in the possible swap of my defenders chassis. I own a 1993 2.5 na defender 90, and due to the chassis being shot am looking into buying a galvanised one! However i have found that there is a 90 TD5 which i am able to buy for £700, which is a bargain compared to £1200 for the 2.5 - 200tdi chassis. So i am in desperate need of finding out how difficult or if at all possible this transfer would be? i have knowledge that the engine and fuel tank brackets are in a different place? but can this be corrected easily and if so how? pictures of any type of similar situation or step guides would be much appreciated! thanks, miles.

technically, that would be a no no, you'd need to do a iva and have a q plate iirc.

Afaik, if you want to keep the reg then it must be new.

FYI, the chassis usually has a stamp on the right hand dumb iron. If you are looking at buying another defender, then have a check.

If it is missing, then it may be a new chassis or the dumb iron could have been cut off and a new one rewelded on. Lots of places sell dumb iron repair sections. I'm not sure if you could then tell if the chassis is original or not, esp if they bought a stamp kit and stamped it. As long as it's the same type of chassis for the vehicle. So be careful when you are buying a vehicle, check for new welding and the chassis matches the year.

There a quite a few differences in the Chassis but nothing too major. Only needs to go on a Q plate if you tell em about it ;)
