Hi guys. As far as I am aware, all discos until at least 2002 had cdl. But unless you requested cdl as an option the linkage was not connected and the shifter only gave you high or low range. Now I have a face lifted 2003 model, does any one know if land rover changed the diff as part of the face lift? If not I maybe able to install an ashcroft after market shifter enabling control of the cdl... thoughts

Many of the Disco 2 transfer boxes were supplied with the internals for CDL and likewise, many were supplied without them. Land Rover put their faith in the traction control system, which seems to work pretty well instead.
The first thing you need to do is check whether the internals are in fact fitted. The easiest way to do that is to check from underneath whether or not the actuating spigot is present.
You should be able to feel it if you reach up on the top of the T-box, towards the front and to the left of the front prop shaft. Step 16 on the write up at the link http://www.discovery2.co.uk/diff_lock.html which @neilly gave you will give you a good idea of where to find it.

If the 2003 modell doesnt have the CDL factory fitted it doesnt have internals either, on facelifts it's or 100% on or none...provided it's the original trans box
