Hi,
I have just retrofitted my difflock & have number 15 high temp gearbox light on the dash binnacle. I found another thread where it stated that I would have to cut the wire on connector co506 pin 9. I thought I may get away with this, as it stated it was not needed on later models (mine is 2004) as SLABS ecu was programmed to ignore it. I guess this is aimed more at Sierraferry as I am sure he will know, but when I replaced the SLABS ecu for model no. SRD000150 is this from an earlier model meaning I will need to cut the wire ? I was told by the scrappy that it was the same year & I made sure to get that model number as recommded tp me.

Dan.

Hi, two different hings here, the wire which is supposed to be cut(C0506-9) on early modells is for other reason(TC related) and i dont recommend that regardless of SLABS ECU... your problem is that on some late facelifts there is no circuit for the CDL warning but there is the wiring for the transfer box oil temp switch(C0686, unused) which brings on the transmission high temp warning so for the CDL warning you have to reroute that circuit

one of the connectors you connected to the CDL switch has a black/light green(BLG) wire attached which should be black/blue so if you dont find a similar terminal with BU wire you'll have to go to C0047 cut the BLG wire from pin 1 and splice into BU wire at pin 39, this is for manual modells so if your's is auto it'll be a bit harder cos you'll have o remove the centre console and cut at C0681 pin 4(BLG) and splice into pin 7(BU) as to retain the gearbox oil temp warning ... i cropped the relevant part of the diagram for you:

I gave you the simplest solutions but you can do how ever you want as long as the result is the same just concentrate cos there is no "greel/black CDL wire" , .. it's quite clear on the diagram that the CDL warning wire is black/blue(BU) while the other a the TB is black/light green(BLG) and you show me two connectors which are far from each other and mix up the wire colours, i can't work like that

Mine is a manual model by the way.
And Sorry I looked at the two connectors numbers at either end & mixed up the one I wanted. So the green/black wire that I connected to the CDL is the temp switch.

Do I leave the green/black wire & the solid black one connected to the cdl switch & then on connector C0047 on right hand side of steering column cut the green/black wire on pin 1 & splice into blue black wire on pin 39 all on same side.

I apologise if you get frustrated. I am trying to concentrate on what you mean I just don`t follow the basics as easily as you are able too & as ever I appreciate your efforts in helping.

Yes if it's with manual gearbox and make sure you dont confuse C0047 with 0067 cos they are the same just the wires are differen colours in them

Thank you. I had a look at the pictures in the electrical library you posted before & will make sure I get the right one.

Just an update in case this helps anyone in future. I`m glad Sierraferry told me to check wiring connector colours, to make sure I had the right one. Connector 047 was the second one down in my 03 non-difflock model & C067 was the top one. In the electrical library picture they are opposite way round & C0047 is shown at the top & C0067 below it . Also the connector hood was a lime green sort of colour. I`m going to cut & splice the wire on the CO223 side of the wiring as access the other side of the connector is difficult, with not much free play to pull the loom out.

Well done. That's why i told you to check the colours cos i've seen cases when they were the other way around as well.

No matter which side of the connector you do the job as long as the input goes where it should

Thanks for that. It doesn`t appear to be activating the dash light though. I have cut pin 1 & twisted the wire round pin 39 after using wire cut to seperate the outer sheath. I`m awaiting arrival of a new soldering iron before I can solder the joint.

Dash light doesnt come on this way with CDL engaged and switch connected?

No. I made sure the garbox temp light had come one as previously & all I have done is cut & splice those wires, whilst leaving the other wires still connected to the diff lock switch

You lost me... so the oil temp light was on before you cut the wires then now it's off and the CDL light doesnt come on wih BLG wire connected to BU? ... i did this mod not once and it worked every time so you must have missed something there... connect the BU wire from pin 39 directly to earth cos then the CDL light must definitely come on(with ignition on off course). I hope they didnt mix up the wires in the connector too so can you confirm that pin 1 is BLG and pin 39 is BU ?

Yes the high temp light was on. I disconected the battery & then pulled the plugs out to get easier access & then cut pin 1 black/light green BLG wires & then with wire strippers seperated the sheath on black/blue BU wire & twisted it on. I will try earthing it & see if that brings it on.

Right I put on a set of croc clips & earthed the switch with the wires still twisted together, this caused both the diff lock light & high temp light to illuminate on the dash. Next I tried untwisting the BLG wire from the BU wire & earthed the BU wire on it`s own & this brought on just the difflock light on the dash.

Ufff...well tested... everything will be OK once the BLG is cut and joined to the BU then

Well I did have them twisted together before the BLG & BU that is. I attempted twisting the wires together & thought my first attempt maybe wasn`t good enough, so re done it & this didn`t work. The only thing bringing the lights on is by earthing them.

BTw, you can use scotchlock or posi-tap connectors there without fear cos there's no current draw no need to solder

Ok I have neither of those about at the moment & if the BU was cut & seperated I could heatshrink it. So what should I do now ? Do I retry twisting the wires together, or just make a new wire taken from the BU wire & earth it ?
