Hi, so I did a stupid thin today on my 1999 P38 with the 4L Bosch V8. I dropped a boot through one of the holes in the lower intake manifold:

They just seem to be drainage holes for water? What is beneath this lower intake manifold piece, just an open cavity? Basically, how bad is dropping a bolt in that hole? Am I okay to leave it there or is the lower manifold coming off?

Underneath the lower intake manifold, is the valley gasket, that's all

Interesting LPG bypass !! Probably need something better than those bolts, or you might suffer air-leak & cause wrong fueling.

So the bolt rattling around in there will cause no issue?

I put a dab of silicone sealant on those bolts so should be airtight! I only think the connections at the other end are not airtight anymore. Hoses can turn on the hose nipples in the manifold, so think the clamps at that end may not be tight enough.

i would have to retrieve the bolt, but thats just me.. magnet on the end of a zip tie or bit of wire should poke around and find it. the gasket isnt flat, so the bolt should roll to the centre..ish

+1 ^^^ it may eventually cause damage.

Yeah same, can't stand the idea of it rattling around in there but was hoping the valley was open at the back end.
Will try the magnet trick, if not I'll have to take the manifold off which will also allow me to unbodge the LPG lines bodge

Well I discovered that the valley is indeed open, at least at the frond end. Just take the radiator fan off and you can stick a magnet in there. The bolt was easily retrieved this way! And good thing that I did because if it would have come out at the front end it would have fallen into the auxiliary drive belt.
