A friend of mine has just returned from Manchester where he left his car (not a Landy) parked up while he watched a footy game. When he got back someone had jacked his car up and used a grinder to cut his cat out of the exhaust. Because they hacked it out he must replace the whole exhaust - £1500.00! Fortunately the insurance will pay out, but he's lost his no claims discount. After he told me this I then read in our local paper that the same thing has happened a few times in Cumbria as well. I'm not sure how to guard against this but I'm even more careful where I park now!

er...I must admit...

I assumed you hit a cat and needed to poke it out the body and workings

who`s bin out fer a xmas drink then boys..
a cat ffs ... :)

ok, sorry, if it were me, I`d find an old exhaust wiv a cat in it (meeooowwww)
and weld the fcuker back into the system.....

or, buy a cheapo car to park in Manchester
gotta be cheaper then losing yer no claims discount shirley.... :(

This crime surprisingly actully happens quite alot, down near me some one went throught a fleet of hired hiluxs on a buiding site bout 15 i think also when i worked for kwick fit would have a different custmer in bout once twice a month, its cause the price of scrap, normaly they only go for new cars cause aftermarket cats arnt worth a bean, the worst affected i seen was a disabled chap they cut his out and was main dealer only £1800 trade price without vat, makes you wounder what this worlds comming to

actually they are worth a bit more than a bean. as they are scrapped for the precious metals inside of them. IIRC they fetch approx £50 scrap. at the last time I looked.

I have the easiest solution, cut the cat out yourself, bag your own £50 and replace the section with a length of acro, jobs a goodun :D

*£60 for a cat not £50 :)

Happened to me, except my neighbour disturbed them half way through the job.

They don't use grinders though, they use exhaust pipe cutters - takes not time at all, they even do it in Tesco car parks :(

I had a complete exhaust nicked off the escort I used to own years ago they had to crawl underneath to unbolt it.................. I had the last laugh though it only cost £36 to replace it and that was where my Dog had a **** every morning :hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi
