Exporting Elldiss Oddysey caravan to Oz when we emigrate later this year.

Will buy TD5 Disco in Oz to tow it around Oz (will be a "grey nomad")

Can I hitch direct to Disco or do I need some sort of "cushioned" hitch to protect caravan chassis?

(Seemed to be an issue a few years ago)

I've towed a caravan since I got the Disco, never had any problems at all. Before that I towed the caravan with a series, never had any problems with that. I think the 'issues' were just bad press, misrepresentation and feckwits trying to think too hard.

Most, if not all, standard caravan hitches already have some damping and movement in the draw bar, check it yourself by pushing the hitch back in, there's about 2" of damping before the brakes start to come on ... there's suspension on the axle/wheels, OK it's primitive unless a new 'van, but adequate for road use.

I don't worry about it at all.

I towed my caravan with my td5 all over France. They are great towing vehicles.I have had other 4x4 but the disco is the best.Good for you going to Aus much better place to live than here even tho I have never been there.J

According to my son who lives in Melbourne, Landrovers hold their price and cost a bomb over there, fuel is half what it costs in the UK and you only need an MOT when you sell the vehicle, might be worth looking at taking a towing unit with you as well as your van
