The original plan (cheap-ish Defender as a second car just for me) may have changed slightly into "Get a newer truck or CSW and have it as a second car for the family".

Of course this means it would be used for more things such as shopping.

I'd not thought of this before, but do Defenders struggle with typical car park height restrictions?

I'd guess multi-storey car parks could be an issue because of angles, but I'm thinking more of the typical supermarket or out of town retail park that has some sort of "frame" at the entrance limiting vehicle height - I've never had to pay attention before though so I have no idea what the typical limit is.

You can have problems.

Most car parks are set to around 6ft. I can get into a local one set at 1.96 Meters. In theory they should set the height at the enterance to tak into account any angles you may encouter in there.

My advice would be to mearure the height of your landy rover first (as people may have put different springs etc on, and then check the height of your local car parks.

As for out of town car parks -they usualy have another 'hidden' way in for service vechiels (changing lamp post lights etc) - well at least mine does)
 
you WILL have problems... multi stories are a no go for me cos i have a roof rack but on height restriction frames at the entrance to town carparks you can actually open the frame like a gate. no one will bother you if you wear a hi vis vest.
 
I have roof bars, so Ive written my overall vehicle height onto the inside of my windscreen in chinagrah pen.

I cant get into some of the carparks at my local shopping centre:confused: but fortunately I can easily get under the height restriction bar at my local McDonalds:)

I sometimes tow a caravan and so Ive also written all the other relevent dimentions onto the windscreen as well, in case I encounter a low bridge.

Incidentally, Ive got a Phillips Truckers road map which shows all the bridge heights. Sad I know...:eek:
 
Thanks for the replies. Just to be clear, I wouldn't be looking at a lifted/roof-racked vehicle, just a totally normal bog standard Defender.
 
My 110 with roofrack needs 2.1 metres as the rear is higher than the front, I can squeeze under a bit less. I have a military type ariel on the front wing with a piece of tape on it to mark the max or min height so I know if I can get under easy. Multi stories are out for me as well.:rolleyes:
 
i have a roof rack and it hits my local supermarket. luckily its on chains so just moves!

generally standard should be ok a most pople drive big range rovers etc now anyways
 
the only thing is when i am in me landy all these 7.5 truck drivers go by and i am level with them cab to cab.maybe this is why people sometimes call them ' trucks ' ??????
 
Parking can often be a nightmare there are only a limited number of them I can fit under and I dread going to new towns and trying to find the increasingly reducing number of height unrestricted car parks.

The other issue that I often encounter is the turning circle of the 110 ( about 7 miles ! ) and the layout of some car parks which seem to require that you can turn at a 90 degree angle

Still wouldnt swap it for the world tho
 
my landy stands at 7ft. I can fit in the park and ride but not in a multi-storey.
