Driving car and battery cuts out after using all its charge. Took to garage and he said its charging when I look at it so I'll tighten everything up it might be a loose connection. Next day battery died. Got a new alternator sat here ready to go in... just wondered if you all thought it actually was a fault with the alternator? Nightmare!

What engine & what size battery do you have, how many times are you using the car in these times of shutdown?

If you get a multimeter, measure the battery volate after charging it, start the car and recheck the oltage, the voltage should be ~13-14 volts for a healthy alternator.

But if the car is cutting out due to a flat battery when driving, that is pretty much a slam dunk for the alternator.

When the alternator brushes wear down, they can cause intermittent charging. What is your battery light doing?
Mine did exactly this. The light was intermittent. I checked the output voltage quite a few times and sometimes there was healthy output from the alternator and other times nothing.

As said above, get your battery tested, but it sounds pretty much like your alternator to me.

Is it just not starting randomly i.e. are all the lights coming on with the ignition, and it's just not starting? If so it could well be the starter solenoid contactors, which do burn out giving intermittent starting.

I just looked at the post in there. All I could think of was Sir Alec Guinness as Ben Kenobi describing Mos Eisley as a "wretched hive of scum and villainy." There doesn't seem to be any concept of "be gentle with the newbies" in the Anything Goes section. I hope OP gets the problem sorted.

The way I read it was she posted a speciffic freelander question, the first rreply was from an LZIR despatch agent mentioning one of our lot who would most likely know about a freelander, but the OP got snarky with the LZIR agent and entered into a forum spat akin to one of trumps twitter spats, which derailed the thread.

It did look a little bit of an over sensitive noob scenario to me, but it was obviously in the bear pit so maybe some slack should be given lol

Sort of understandable on both sides. A bit of logic needed:

AG crowd: ‘Why are you asking sensible questions in AG?’
OP: ‘Because Anything Goes’.

OP: ‘Why am I getting silly answers in AG?’
AG crowd: ‘Because Anything Goes’.

Do you get the battery light come on the dash? I had similar problems from a new alternator and the company that remanufactured it had put the bearings inside the wrong way. They damaged after some miles and leaked grease every were inside and knackered it
