Hi everyone,
Latelly I have a problem to get the handle of my automatic td5 2004 to D mode. The handle moves smoothly but when it gets to D the red light is not there, there is no D light on the dashboard and I can drive only up to the second or third gear. Until now I played with the handle until it worked. Today it didn't work anymore and when I played with the handle the m&s lights showed.
Do you think it is the xyz switch?
That is your experience with refurnish it?

Hi
Do you think it is the xyz switch?
Yes, most likely but as the M+S were on you should read the fault code to be confirmed.

the 2004 modell might have the newer bosch switch which has microswitches within and those can't be refurbished only the other type wich has tracks within

examples:

brown bosch switch(unrepairable... or might be but very hard)

black ZF switch(this one can be cleaned easily)

Usual dumb question from me.
Could he replace it with the older version? I'm guessing "no chance", for some flipping electronic reason, but then what do I know?

SF will know for sure but I have a feeling you can interchange them.
Caveat being I have been wrong before.

Sorry, i was away while it seems that google already did it's job  .... they are interchangeable off course, they do the same thing ;)
Well I didn't google it and to me there is nothing "of course" when it comes to electronics on modern cars.
Which is why I asked the question.
I hope that with this extra knowledge the OP will be able to sort his problem out. ;)

Is the exchange require an update with nanocom?
It's not compulsory but good to do IMO, from my experience when i helped a friend this function improved the driveability, i have a manual so can't confirmn100% event though the switch is considered a "mechanical" component in the "LR technical academy"... here's from nanocom user guide:

Interesting, changed my son's xyz switch twice and didn't reset anything, partly due to the fact we don't have a Nanocom.
