Hi folks

Thought id set about changing the Front wheel bearings on my new '96 D90 300tdi purchase
:)
Unfortunately i cant get the hub back on and now i'm stumped as to why it wont go

I have the inner seal set to 4mm deep and as far as im aware the Bearing races are in the correct place(there is quite a gap between the seal and the bearing though), however when the hub goes over the stub axle it doesnt appear to go on far enough, as a result i cant get the locknut onto even 1 thread

look like it should have another 10mm+ to go

Any ideas???

Cheers

try wriggling it

Are you sure the bearing shells are on the right way.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you sometimes have to give the bearings a nudge top an bottom with a blunt screwdriver as if they are not perfectly square onto hub they will never go on.
Hope this helps somewhat

I think it might be an idea to "introduce yourself" - it upsets some people if you don't ;)

Woooops, Im such a dumb ass

Sorry Folks, completely new to the forum as i'm sure you have gathered.

Former Aircraft Electrician now working in the Oilfields around Europe and africa, not a complete mechanical biff, no genius either though. will have a go at most things :)

I've just purchased a D90 for some offroading fun, most of the work has been done ie. Lifted, big wheels, snorkle, winch Etc

However The font wheel bearings are shot to pieces, thought it was an easy fix until i tried to put the hub back on, now i cant even get to the point where i can get the 52mm Nut back on

Sorry again for bulldozing straight in with the questions

Take rthe hub off and take a pic of the hub and the stub axle and post em on ere If there's owt adrift it's easy enough to spot/

I'm assming ya put the inner bearing race on the stub axle and then slid the hub on, followed by the outer bearing race..

Just heading out to get some pics, the Inner bearing was fitted to the hub with the seal on top before sliding the hub on, then the outer bearing installed after the hub slid on

Cheers for the fast replies

shoud go ok. sound like the inner race hasn't seated on the stub axle properly.

Did you get all the old bits of bearing out. The new ones won't be in properly,

Pretty sure i did get everything out, the inner had completely exploded but had to knock the Races out before cleaning up

Ive attached some Pics of the Hub as it is now, sorry its all greased up still

Is it possible for part of the exploded inner bearing to still be attached to the stub axle?
