2005 Discovery 3 was left standing for some time and has a flat battery. I need to enter the car to open the bonnet and access the battery, but the passenger side door has previously been replaced and I don’t have a key for the emergency lock so can’t enter this way. When speaking to Land Rover they have advised that the only way to enter the vehicle is by smashing the window, although obviously this is expensive and covers the car in glass. Does anybody have any other ideas as to how I could gain access to the car, or battery?

Many thanks,
David

Best to see if you can a battery charger positive connected to the starter motor pole from underneath and start charging

I'd try and connect a trickle charge to any permanent live that you can get your hands on - connecting the other half to earth will be easy. Hopefully before too long you'll have power to run the central locking. Just make sure the current from the charger wont blow the fuse that you're running it through.

If you have dual towing electrics there is a battery live on the second (caravan) socket at pin 4 and earth at Pin 3.

If you do have to smash the window, the technique to avoid glass is thus:

- Cover window duck tape ensuring complete coverage all the way to the edges.
- Smash window (might require multiple attempts to completely shatter the glass)
- Cut out an opening with a tough knife.

You'll still get some glass in the car but it wont fly absolutely everywhere!

Have you tried seeing if the AA can help?
