Hi all,
After owning my 2003 Serengeti 5 door for over 4 years I have decided to replace the Driver door solenoid because I"m fed up with it only opening using the Key. The passenger door and the rear door open using the key fob. The problem is I can"t find one for sale, I"ve looked practically everywhere, Ebay, Scrapyards but the only one I"ve been offered looked really dodgy and might or might not work. Are they still manufactured or will I have to take pot luck and try a secondhand one? Does anyone have one or know of one?
The old girl and I"m talking about the Landy has recently sailed through the MOT so I intend keeping it for another year. I noticed on ebay how many Freelander 2 Solenoids are for sale so does the new model have the same problem?
Cheers all.

I am almost sure that the R40 lock from a saloon or tourer fits also.

I have a feeling also but not 100% that the Mini R50 to R57 are the same ? you would need to investigate more.

The original BMW MINI has exactly the same mechanism/actuator module, so maybe that is easier to come by?

Alternatively Gentlememenofsalvage seem to have some Freelander 1 solenoid modules.

Alternatively 2, it is possible to repair these things yourself. I did mine, when the scrappy one I bought had a different fault. Essentially there are two little motors in them. They get bunged up with carbon from the brushes. Strip the motor down and clean it, and it should work like new again.

and

might help to show you how.

Just take photos as you strip the thing down as it gets a bit fiddly remembering how it goes back together.

Thanks Artic 2 and thanks 4Bee4Bee.
I will try G.O.S having used them before but the other ones on ebay except for the New one all look a bit suspect. I don"t want to go through the aggro of removing the old one only to find the secondhand one don"t work. If G.O.S don"t have a decnt one for sale I might bite the bullet and buy the new one. Cross fingers and thanks again guys.
