Evening,

I just wanted to try and get some rough pricing and feasibility for a potential defender 90 rebuild. It's been sat for a while now due to ill health and needs some fairly extensive work doing. Needed a new LT77 gearbox when it was last used and now most likely an engine rebuild. I was speaking to Turners Engineering, though might get away with a top end rebuild. Will also need some work on brakes, discs, and steering. Paintwork is great and interior, they're the only good things currently. On a Marslands galv chassis.

Hasn't been run for over a year and can be transported to said location. Just trying to find someone who could hold onto it for a while to carry out the above works, or failing that, the bare minimum to get it running + the obvious necessary repair/maintenance works due to its lack of use. Happy to pay storage/rent for the space or would take up.

Ideally needed someone to remove the 200TDI engine to send off for a rebuild if I opted for turner's, or whether they would do a degree of rebuilding in house?

If anyone has a ballpark figure - even if it's rough - for the above, which is probably not easy to diagnose or estimate based on the email alone, but any idea would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
James

Hi mate, can't help with any pricing as I do all my work myself.
Whereabouts are you based? If you're in or around Hampshire I've heard good things about Backyard 4x4, (never used them myself though). They might be able to help or give a ballpark figure for what you need

Thanks Steve, I'm Berkshire, near Wokingham, so not too far. I'll look them up.

Hi James, might be a bit out of the way but there's Wallis Defenders just outside Cambridge. My 1987 90 is currently enjoying something of a 'spa week' there as they sort out a miriad of issues ranging from new brakes to the steering, iffy gearbox, prehistoric filters and various split hoses. This is their website; https://wallisandson.co.uk/built-by-wallis-defenders.php
They do a lot of very smart custom builds but are clearly happy to work on any Defender, including my 'bitsa'!
