Actually Corwen is a Welsh Town. And since when has it been illegal to camp in a public place in England & Wales.

I know its a town, i was refering to the ford or "carwash" as its become known.
Wild camping is technically illegal. I didnt say you couldnt do it or that anybody pays any attention to it. I do it all the time! But it is technically illegal to pitch up on private/public land without consent. Scotland is different, wild camping is allowed

Yu forgot about dartmoor the right to camp is enshrined into the act of parliment that created the park.
The National Parks & Access to the Countryside Act, 1949 amendment Dartmoor Commons Act, 1985.
Article 6 states:
6 Camping
(1) No person shall knowingly use any vehicle, including a caravan or any structure other than a tent for the purpose of camping on the access land or land set out for the use or parking of vehicles except on any area which may be set apart and indicated by notice as a place where such camping is permitted.
(2) No person shall knowingly erect a tent on the access land for the purpose of camping:
(a) in any area listed in Schedule 2 to these byelaws;
(b) within 100 metres of any public road or in any enclosure.
(3) No person shall camp in a tent on the same site on the access land for more than two consecutive nights, except on any area which may be set apart and indicated by notice as a place where such camping is permitted.(b) within 100 metres of any public road or in any enclosure.
Basically put, you can camp anywhere as long as you are compliant with the above.

dartmoor and other NP's make have exceptions but they are not the RULE. overall it is a well known fact that you cant just pitch up anywhere.
just letting the good public know what their letting themselves in for. I have seen too much evidence of wild camping recently on some of my favourite West Wales lanes. Piles of rocks from fires, ash and burn logs everywhere, trees fell'd, beer cans strewn. All along with leaving the byway and making a mess. Its not a good approach.

I agree, just been reading an article in one of me gun mags, turns out thats what the firearms licencing act was originally set up in 1920 to try and prevent the general public rising against the establishment with arms like happened in Russia 3 years prior. British gov in 1920 were apparently ****ting themselves because servicemen from ww1 had returned from the fronts with christ knows what in weapons and ammunition and were pretty understandably well ****ed off with the government for the whole fiasco plus the economic climate at the time wasn't too hot just like now so the general public was baying for blood also, so they decided that all weapons needed to be accounted for and only nice pro-government types should be allowed to keep them. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Anti's up in arms about Afghanistan and Iraq, economy down the ****ter just about and halfwits in power. defo potential for a revolt.
as with footpaths and every where else.When i wild camp it usually in the arse end of nowhere where no one would find me any way.Its at the end of the day and im off again at the start of the next day and ive never returned to a wild camp.Dont leave any sign and you should be ok

On a Public Right of Way you have the right to pass and repass (England and Wales). It is legal to carry out normal activities connected with that, i.e stopping for a picknick during your journey, although setting out with the prime intentional of having a barbecue is less clear cut. Camping I feel would be stretching the point a long way.
If you set up a tent on the right of way, you are obstructing the highway, if you set up a tent beside a right of way, you are trespassing.

fact of the matter is; we and our vehicles are as popular as dog**** at the mo, so it's just not worth the agro wild camping can cause.

however we are blessed in mid Wales with some very fine campsites, me I like the one near Torrent walk by Dolgelleau, camp fires are allowed and the showers are hot and clean
