Hi All

I've just had my cambelt replaced on my 1997 300TDi by a local garage and since that, the engine seems to hunt slightly at idle, slight lack of power from before and smoke on accel. Today, it seems (prob in my head !) to be making a tappet type noise too. None of these problems were apparent before, any ideas what it might be. Belt a tooth out ? Fuel pump timing, does that get touched when changing a cambelt ?

Thanks

Think you've answered you're own question.

Didn't do it before belt change. Symptoms sound like timing is out, but only slightly.

Take it back and get them to sort it I'd say.

The tapping noise may be because the cam timing is out and the valves are touching the pistons. If you have to drive it back to the garage keep the revs down.

Hi,
There is slight adjustment at the fuel pump sprocket, it does not have to be out a whole tooth. It is tricky to get exactly right if you do not have the proper alignment tools. Take it back and explain the issue. The knocking may be fuel ignition not mechanical, don't worry too much about the valves, it need not have affected the valve timing.
