OK, let's start (probably again) as to how the C-clip should actually be fitted to the 1.8 K series. I've always believed that you instal the slave cylinder and then clip the C-clip on with the open side of the C facing the back of the car. However differing views are emerging that suggest the C-clip is clipped on and then rotated 180 degrees, so it has the open side on the C is facing the front of the car - this makes some sense as the C-clip then takes some of the strain when the clutch is operated. The Haynes manual is of little use...... I'm assuming someone, somewhere knows the correct procedure, so would appreciate that view.

As no one appears to have a view: -
Have talked to the Land Rover specialist at the LR garage this morning and they say the proper way for the C-clip to fit is to put it on and not to turn it, so the open side of the C-clip is facing the rear of the car....
 
That's how I fitted mine, then used cable ties to make sure it didn't fall off.
What a crap design!
