Where do we stand with doing repairs on byways? Do you have to get permission from council/highway dept? Or could you just carry out work without permission?

I think you do need the local councils permission.

If the wayfarer is that badly damaged then let the council know and mention there is a few others that want to help you sort it. Also informing GLASS,CRAG and Treadlightly.

There maybe technicalities, Like if someone gets injured and non of you guys are approved contractors etc etc. I know its shizer but it is the way of the world these days with people claiming for every penny they can

Good luck with this little project though, if i was able i would be one of the first to put my name down.

All the best

Sounds about right.

GLASS seems a good place to make initial enquires and will have local council contacts

GLASS area rep contacted here........Local council highways dept are usually quite approachable in my experience and the more direct the better because paperwork gets lost

I have sent Duncan Green a Trustee of Tread Lightly an e - mail on the legality of a group of private individuals making repairs to the wayfarer. Blue beasty are you contacting Glass. I will also find out about local rights of way officer and try and get meeting with him to discuss in person what we are trying to achieve .

Had reply from Tread Lightly
Hi Paul,

We have treadlightly Ambassadors who hopefully can persuade the Council to
lets us get a working party organise to do some repairs. Please register a
as a volunteer.

I will pass your email onto the local ambassador and see if we can get into
action.

Duncan

Now to push it on trying to get meeting with ROW OFFICER

I've had no word from the council or CRAG going to e-mail GLASS and tread lightly see how quickly they respond:rolleyes:

Try contacting the ROW Officer, I have had recently very quick responses from Powys, Leicestershire and Gwynedd CC via e.mail and all were very helpful and couldn't do enough to assist with enquiries.

Well after numerous e-mails etc to the council and CRAG and treadlightly over the last three weeks still had no reply so I've come to the conclusion they are cnuts!

Just an update have spoken to a friend who was in highways for Wrexham and knows ROW officer personally. He is going to have a talk with him and explain our PLAN and see what he has to say and if there is anyone else we can contact etc

Good stuff :)

The other option is we just go and do it! Can't see the harm if we're replacing exsisting repairs and we're not affliated to any official body that might have to take flak....

Not a bad idea blue beasty, can't see what exactly we can do about peat damage other than fence it of by the memorial or as suggested place rocks across in way. As for sleepers like you say replace and render what is already there and go from there ....

I've got time to go and have a look at the Wayfarer next week.

So if anyone else is free during the day let me know.

Be good to know whats needed so we can whatever materials/tools together and make a proper plan, set a date and group

Would be better to do it with some sort of official sanction but I'd rather do it 'on the fly' than not at all

Yes mate agreed. Like the Guerilla Gardeners.

We could be the secret greenlane repairers. A top secret organisation that nobody knows about, but if you need help, and you can find them maybe you can call the SGR's or the Scraggers.

I doubt it would take more than a day to knock a few posts in and lash up the sleepers.
