Hi all

I'm back into the world of rust, I mean Landrovers lol

No stranger to Landrovers, owned a 1964 11A was a bit of a mish mash, very very thirsty but being 19 I loved it dearly.

Grew up a little ;) and got a few 90's as toys over the years and a 200tdi Disco. Did a lot if off roading in them all :) loved them all.

Fast forward 10 years to today. Now have a local job, no company car anymore and not as much money ha ha

So the plan is to trade in my Audi A3 tdi for a 110 CSW. Plus a few grand to make it up to £6-9. Quite fancy aTd5. I'm used to electronic engine management on other modern cars and from what I can see the Td5 is a very simple system.

The A3 is a fantastic car, economical, very quick (remapped to 185bhp) reliable but, well it has no soul. It's fun is in going fast and I don't do that, do it all day at work (under blue lights).

My mate has a 110 XS TD5 and it goes so well! Sounds great too! This will be my daily car as well as toy and potential overland trip vehicle.

Instinct says the 300 will still be the easiest to fix if not the best daily drive. Other issue is the 300 are getting harder to find in decent condition. It's the overall condition I'm interested in not just mileage or the engine type. So it's likely to be a td5 or maybe a nice 300.... See once I have the money.

I've seen a few 300 and 200 csw for sale at silly money but guessing they are aimed at US export.

I've read and searched and read some more but would welcome any comments folk have. Will be a good few months until I've saved enough cash to consider. Hitting the overtime big style now! :)

Cheers Gary

My thoughts on this are:

1/ You have come back to Land Rovers as they get into your system and you can never forget them.
2/ Your budget will get you what you want and I think for what you are going to use it for a 300 TDi or TD5 will serve you well.
3/ I went for a late 300 TDI (110 CSW) on the grounds that parts for it seemed to be priced a little cheaper and it just seemed more DIY friendly

Whatever you get I would pay more for a vehicle with service history (owner or garage) and sympathetic upgrades (rather than bling)

Good luck with the search

David

For that sort of money you'd be able to buy a good condition late Td4 with low or average miles and still have some cash left over.

thats very rude comming over here and leaving all your hair clipping on the floor :D

Best buying tip is to submerge it in vinegar to preserve it. Failing that it needs wax oyl'd.

Ha ha

No hair dressers cars for me :) ok a bit harsh it still had a Landrover badge!

Waxoil is my friend :)

Agree with the no bling but sensible upgrades and history. Hope my budget can get us a decent Csw. They do hold their value extremely well.

You could..................... but why on God's green Earth would you want to:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Not harsh at all:bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:

Good luck fella:cool::cool::cool:

I'd go for a 300tdi and then spend what you have left on a really good service, all the fluids and filters, suspension etc. For the full 9K you might be lucky and find one with a galvanized chassis although it may need some TLC over time.

it depends whats most important to you, the 300 is a better diy engine and
is more reliable (although the td5 isn't bad).
the td5 is a better engine to drive with though.

having had both ( the 300 was stolen and replaced with a td5)
i don't think i would go back to a 300 anymore.
im sure you'll be happy with either though:)

Once you have driven a TD5 with a stage 1 tune there is no going back :)

Would'nt touch a TD4 with a barge pole !

Yeah I'm pretty sure that we'll be going for a TD5 so long as funds allow.

Seen some nice BIG intercooler upgrades with a remap :)

Got to get the Landy first though ha ha

Ended up with a 300tdi. Allisport intercooler gives it that bit extra go!

I do like the idea of no electronics. Landrover were never good with electric plugs let alone delicate voltages etc required to run a modern engine.

I may still carry my laptop case in the back... Except I will have a big lump hammer in it :)
