Hi.

After owning Land Rovers for a number of years now I'd heard the horror stories of Britpart spares but luckily I'd never fallen foul of them.... Until now!!
Last week I replaced the head gasket on my 300TDI. I had the head skimmed and really took my time, cleaning and replacing parts associated with the head. Put it all back together, started first time and then started to pump oil out of the head gasket on the front o/s corner of the engine!!
I begrudgingly took the head off again yesterday and scratched my head for a while and couldn't figure out what the problem was. I took a closer look at the gasket which is a multi shim type and noticed the holes in each shim for the oil gallery didn't line up and instead of a circular cut out it was a small crack. All other parts of the gasket lined up...
The moral is, Britpart may be ok for some items but if you're spending hours on a repair push the boat out and buy decent parts!!!

moral should be check gasket before fiting ,one of the first things i was taught as an apprentice especially that oil ways are right as well as fire ring etc ,composite gaskets are perfect 300 is basic bored unlined block, wasnt aware mls where available for 300s from britpart they do elring composite for a £!0

I bought a pukka Elring one for about £12, what on earth made you think buying any pattern part when the OE is so cheap a good idea
