Hi folks
I have just rebuilt my swivels etc. One stub has obviously been run with broken bearings and only the outer part of the half shaft. It was buggered inside and out.
I ordered a new one and second hand half shaft. However the new stub where the half shaft goes through from the swivel housing end ( inner side) is a conical profile whereas the original has a shoulder about an inch in, matching the shoulder on the outer half of the half shaft. When I put this together and checked for rotation it catches the conical part before full lock. I have tried complaining but britpart say they have never had this problem. This if it didn't stick and break the UJ's would mill away at the metal and drop swarf into the swivel housing
Anybody else had this problem or know the solution

what part number was it

Hi there
599827
Quality parts for land rovers
Just looked on the box
There is another number but I think that's the one
Photos are of the new one, old one and half shaft assembly with shoulder in center. If you can look closely at the new one you can see a scratch glinting in the light where the shoulder catching as you go towards full lock. Tried it on both sides. Same result. Old one no problems.
Thanks for your help

Well done. Mine is the outer part of the stub axle i.e the tubular part at fault. I am thinking of making a bedside lamp stand out of mine

That part number is for the early axle what year is your?
Later axle does not have hex nut on halfshaft outer end.
Have you sent faulty part back to supplier.
I had issue with faulty poly bushes from britpart chased them for months as I asked them to raise a quality complaint with there manufacturer. Never got anywhere. The supplier had refunded me though.
The same result with Mintex when supplied brake shoes where sub standard.

Am getting refunded from the supplier. But I do worry as it only affects it at full lock nearly, as to how many people are driving around slowly building up swarf in their swivel. I got the supplier to contact britpart but they said they are correct spec. Oh well. She's an s reg. So should be right part I think. Anyhow has anyone used the britpart parts for the timing? Any good? Is turner engineering different parts.? Should I start a new thread to ask this?
