Hi,

I need new discs and pads all round on my TD5, had a look at paddocks website, great price on the standard discs and pad sets, but are they any good? or should i pay more for a performance set.
 
I use standard discs (vented, not drilled) and Mintex pads, quite adequate for 'normal' driving

For performance, agree with Mad - Go GREEN
 
dont use cheap crap thats on offer! you will waste your time i did with my last td5 got brake fade real bad stick to the best go green

I've got Mintex pads, so I wouldn't call them 'cheap crap' and I certainly don't get brake fade, not even when towing my 1800kg caravan :D

I've been told that Green pads are very good, but drilled/slotted discs will 'eat' the pads for little gain on performance :confused:
 
bought them from island 4x4 Mintex pads and the discs came in a britpart box
£44.99 Partco wanted £109 for unipart.
 
I've had a good experience with the Paddock sourced discs and pads. At that price you can't go wrong.

Thought I might when I next change the pads . . . but not sure if they are really worth the extra cost ??

(i've been advised they will 'eat pads' )
 
Exactly - current thinking with after-market disks is not to go for slotted or drilled. change to vented if you want for better cooling, but there is an argument that if you off-road a lot - then the venting will just fill with mud and crud. - best option, i reckon, is just to go for better quality disks and pads. Personally I like EBC disks and their green stuff EBC6000 pads, which are designed to reduce brake fade.

When do disco's get brake fade ? as I have never experienced it, even coming down from 110 to 70mph as very quick as possible, and i've never experienced it coming down a mountain pass with lots of bends but this is possably due to my driving and doing as advised by the road signs and "use a lower gear" I'm still using Genuine Parts pads as Land Rover intended.

So nout wrong with the standard brakes on a D1-D2... They wouldn't be suitable for the new RR/RR Sport or a D3 but then these vehicles are a differant bit of kit altogether.

And as disco_steve said even when using Mintex pads with no fade and he is towing.

Green Stuff pads a good if u don't want the brake dust but they are not all that when cold. They do grab when they have warmed up a bit, so go for them on there own but u could be/will be replacing then a lot sooner than normal pads.

Yes mate a 'fast' knob, had mine on for at least 15/20k and no wear yet and the pads are still like new on the fronts, had to change back pads though. But I think thats down to a sticky caliper:rolleyes: .

That's strange, my pads managed 60k before change, and it was the rear ones that gave up first, wondering if the bias braking system on Disco's EBD - actually applies more pressure to the rear . . . especially when towing (which I do quite a bit of !)
