Please help..i know I'm new and asking a few questions but this ones driving me mental..ok my brakes are not the best but passed mot on rolling road..When I brake I can hear a grinding noise that I think is coming from the front.Checked pads (PLENTY LEFT ON THEM)..its not like metal to metal sound and not always there..9 times out 10 it is though. The car is useable but the brakes are not sharp.Think it might be a wheel bearing problem. How can I check the bloody thing as it is 4 wheel drive..i cant just spin the wheel ..lol..pretty sure its from the front aswell, cant see any sign of metal grinding...HELP !..many thanks in advance

You should be able to turn the wheel if you lift a rear wheel as well. It won't spin as easily as a 2WD but you will be able to turn it.

Make sure its in neutral.

Do as GG said to spin the wheels.

You could check the brake splash shields aren't catching on the discs. Also check the caliper slide pins are free to move. If stuck, they will affect brake performance.
Oh and the Freelander should have it's brakes tested on a road test, using a Tapley meter. It shouldn't go on the rolling road because it's AWD.

And when its up grab the wheel and rock it from side to side and up and down to feel for wheel bearing play

I think the guys if the WOF/MOT stations put a finger on the hub casing while turning the wheel to 'feel' for any raspiness.
