There appear to be 2 brake modulators available. ANR2238 and ANR2239. Presumably the ANR2239 has 4 wheel traction control capability?

Question: is it safe to fit a ANR2239 in place of a ANR2238? i.e. on a car that currently doesn't have traction control?

Short answer No. Don't know where you get your numbers from. STC2778. Two wheel traction. SXC100010 4 wheel traction. STC2779 no traction. A lot of pennies though. Neither of your numbers show on Microcat or are listed at Rimmer Bros. Very old superseded numbers.

Someone told me to keep an eye out for a 2000 or 2001 modulator. 1 has come up at a reasonable price but not sure if it is the right one. Seems to have an extra wire coming out so assume that's for the traction control.

I would have thought you can't fit a traction control modulator to a non traction system. But not sure to be honest. ANR2238 has no traction control. ANR2239 two wheel traction i believe.
 
I've read somewhere of people changing the ABS ECU and the modulator and claiming it gives them rear traction control.

Does the ETC have its own sensors or just use the ABS ones?

It uses the ABS sensors....
 
I'm pretty certain mine doesn't but how do you tell? Other than looking for an ice-skating rink! I think the fact I had the rear wheel spinning when I was stuck in the mud kind of hints I haven't!

Early cars it was an optional extra but rear wheels only. May have been standard later. From 1999 I think 4 wheel TC was standard on all. That'd be around the time the THOR engine came in?

If the modulator is a ANR2238 or Wabco 4684130110 it has no TC.

There is but I'm not sure what he started out with. Mine's one of the first (1995), a DT (manual) with no TC and a lowline BECM.

So, does it need the higher BECM? Are the plugs on mine compatible? What year was his? The manual has the clutch using the same master cylinder unit for fluid. So, was it only for autos that didn't have a hole in the side for the clutch feed?

So many questions ...

Maybe there are other links I missed.
 
Couple of guys here changed it trying for 4W TC. Both electronics and hydraulics are stated as different but not explicitly stated why. 1 car wrecked afterwards (linked?!) and no response on the second (also wrecked?!) No note as to what they started with that I noticed.

Says it worked for rear wheels using brake modulator ANR2239 and WABCO ECU ANR4898. I thought there was only WABCO C and D, the D being the 4WD one used on the later 1999 models. If this is correct then it looks like there were 2 WABCO C models, one with TC (ANR4898) and one without and then a final WABCO D with the 4W TC. Or maybe they just used the same ECU but with different modulators and the TC was just ignored with no input signal?

3 modulators - which I think Wammers put the part numbers up for some time back in this thread.

Thinking about it, a change like this would almost certainly count as a change to the vehicle in insurance terms and they'll fry your bank account at the idea. Personally I iked the idea of the steel washers in the later brake modulator and if for the prie of a second-hand ECU (£20) I could get TC working then way-hey!

The more I think about it the more I think it is a bad idea though. I've only got badly stuck once and that was before I got the Tirfur winch!
 
Just been out and checked mine. Modulator say ANR2238 on it. No TC light on the dash. Plugged the Nanocom in and it says no TC fitted. Seems to cover all avenues!

Interesting, the Nanocom said the WABCO was a 018223. No chuffing idea what that means but assume = ANR1250 as it is a 1995.

Just Google anr2239 and you get loads of stuff on it including old LandyZone threads. Including threads from wammers!

I fitted 2 wheel traction control to mine,changed the brake modulator and computer for the right ones also scrubbed out the fluid res mine was ok but the one that came with the 2nd user modulator was minging.Fitted did a full by the book bleed now got traction at the back.

What's your model and year? Any idea if yours is a lowline BECM?
