Having a few probs braking :eek::eek:

Not losing/using any fluid but i often need to pump the brake before it works :eek:. Feels like i have to create a vacuum to make it work.

I've narrowed it down to the brake master cylinder, cos i'm very clever .. now the round box is a bit corroded but not too bad..would i be best ordering the whole lot as in..

LAND ROVER DEFENDER BRAKE PEDAL BOX MASTER AND SERVO on eBay (end time 22-Dec-10 16:29:25 GMT)

or just these bits...

LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90 110 130 BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER on eBay (end time 23-Dec-10 19:54:14 GMT)

I thank you....

try bleeding brakes first, could be old ****ed fluid or ****ed master cylinder if it either won't bleed air out or it returns after bleeding

Done that...its been getting steadily worse...was just occasionally, now i have to pump brakes nearly every time i use them...

Its cos it'll cost me a darn sight more in postage for the complete unit than if i just buy the master..53 + maybe 25 postage...as opposed to 20 + a fiver...hmmm..

You done the basic servo test? Engine off, press pedal to expell all vacuum, pedal should now be hard.
With foot on pedal, start engine, pedal should go soft and move toward floor, if not then you have a servo/vacuum problem.

I'll do that in the morning...before i drive 40 miles home in the snow...and if i dont die i shall order the complete unit.

could also check the vacuum pump by pulling the pipe out of the servo , start the engine and put your finger over the end of the pipe it should be trying to pull a vacumn on your finger? if it is that rules out the vacumn pump.

And of course the vacuum pump isnt included in that unit on ebay...hmm..best do the test then.
