Hi All,
I relation to my 1984 Petrol 90!
When I brake hard I can feel the brake pedal kind of juddering. Nothing in the steering.
Everything at wheel ends looks ok, so i'm just wondering if this could be a symptom of the brake servo going (as it is 40 years old!)?
I would be pleased to hear anyones thoughts!?!
Many thanks
Paul.

Juddering or pulsating when pressing the brake pedal could be out of round brake drums.
Clamp your rear flexi brake pipe, take it for a drive and see if it still does it. If so then start looking at your front brakes.
I had a similar thing but only when braking lightly.
Oops, sorry thought you had a Series with front drums, maybe your discs are warpped.

Ok so last week i did put new drums on and I discounted them as the problem as they were new!
Anyway tried your clamp trick and judder stopped! I then unclamped and one by one put the old drums back on and after process of elimination both the new drums, individually and together (if that makes sense!) make the pedal judder!
So I now have the old drums back on and everything is ok! I only changed them as the outside of the originals were corroded! On the inside they are fine!!🙄
Now I hope Britcar will take their drums back?!? Do new drums often cause this sort of thing?
Anyway BIG THANK YOU for getting me on the right track :) and thank goodness I didn't start messing with anything else!!

You are welcome and quite often the new drums are out of round.
We had Britpart ones on the Series and were ok, you could feel them pulsating a bit if you rest your foot on the brake pedal lightly but fine when braking.
What make were they?
Faulty they have to take them back.

Hi that's really interesting, that they are quite often like that.
They were OEM ones from ??Heritage?? I thought I would pay a bit extra and get good ones!!
Anyway BRITCAR were great they are collecting the faulty ones and i'm getting cheaper Britpart ones this time! and a refund of the difference :)
I'm really pleased there was no fuss!
Fingers crossed the new ones will be ok!
Thanks again for the help :)

I will post an update to let you know how the replacements turn out.....

Yes, please do.
Hope the Britpart ones are OK. I have a vague recollection that we changed the drums on the back of my son's Ninety a few years back. Give a few days and I will have a look back through the receipts.
Whenever we have a rear wheel off, we take the drum off and clean the inside surface of any rust build up. Hopefully that will put off having to replace them again.

The decent retailers I spoke to about two years ago told me that they weren't selling drums any longer because they had so many coming back. I ended up getting my originals skimmed 'judiciously' so going a little outside green book tolerance while leaving traces of the deepest grooves.

Had the same issue two years ago, forget who from but replacements were good.
Crap replacement parts. Grrrr.

It's infuriating. If I had more time I'd have taken it on as a sideline, got a great machinist in the next village.

This is all very interesting. Who would have guessed they would be difficult to produce! I’m really pleased I didn’t through away the originals as they have life left in them. It’s just the outside edge has some bits missing through corrosion! Anyway I will let you know how I get on with the Britpart ones……

Just had a look, we fitted Britpart drums and Delphi shoes in 2019 and they have been fine.
Hi! That’s great to hear thank you for looking it up. The replacements haven’t turned up yet! Fingers crossed they will be ok like yours! I’ll let you know how I get on when they arrive…..
