I'm having a little trouble remembering which way these clips go, as when I put them on there is a lot of movement in the expander.

Which one do I put on first?

Or

I put then on this way but sadly with a lot of movement.

Close - the top clip is the wrong way round and needs to be inserted from the other direction. See the book pdf Land Rover Manuals | Landroverweb.com

expanders is supposed to move ,thats why the retaining clips are used and its not bolted like adjuster on the other side its to allow shoes to centralise

It should be able to move up and down a bit with some resistance but it shouldn't be loose.

top clips is ok middle clip should go on first and your first clip in the middle , opposite way round to each othe

Cool beans, all on now and it's a lot tighter with just a little bit of movement
