Having done a search on D1 caliper upgrades I've read various threads on whacking 110 or 130 calipers on.

One question that I saw James Martin raise was about the legality of doing the mod - presumably it's more of an insurance issue than anything else though?

Other than that, what would be better - 110 or 130 calipers, and they'll be going onto the solid D1 discs that I currently have if I decide to go down this route.
My D1 is ABS (not currently working) with the single hose connection to the caliper.

I would rebuild the calipers, but they're shagged and so corroded that I don't feel 100% happy with them.
I know that standard (new) D1 calipers will be good, but if I'm going to the expense of buying new, then a couple of quid more for an upgrade is always worth it in my book - the car carries my wife and kids around every day after all...

Cheers :D

110 and 130 calipers are the same as are 90 after ma or 300 tdi on,they will fit straight on ,same bolts and have larger pistons ie you get less movement with pedal travel but greater force, it may well be an insurance issue as your modifying braking system , i used to have to send a letter to insurance companies for them to agree such modifications, so worth asking first

I'd have thought so haigy, but then again it's not worth it when it all goes tits up, and as I'm with NFU they're very good about modifications and haven't increased my premium with an oil conversion, 265/75 insa T Tracks or the 2" lift kit.

James, so are you saying that the 130, 110 and 90 calipers are all the same after MA/300 ? So it doesn't matter which I chose?
Thanks..

Thanks JM, I was seeing those part numbers coming up in a few searches just now. Top man :)

I went the whole hog when I did my brakes and switched them over to 130 calipers with vented discs - I too have ABS and all works great, much better than the standard setup, but I was due an over hall on my brakes anyways so it could just have been the old stuff was just old and knackered.....

StuRox - is it literally just a case of bolting on the vented discs and calipers, or do you need different caliper carriers as well? Just wondering as I'm considering a brake overhaul later in the spring...

TIA

You need the 130 calipers if going down the route of the vented discs...just found my old thread with the parts I put on mine - may be out of date a bit with the prices, but doubt by much...

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info. Something i would like to do and have checked out various websites.

Only one thing though, arent those BRITPART calipers supplied by Island 4x4?

Any issues there guys?

Not sure i want to trust my brake to the old blue box!

Do you guys have good results with their calipers?

Cheers.

Island 4x4 have always been top notch for me.

Plus, have had my brakes on for 3 years plus with no issues whatsoever. Very pleased with the results
