Hello!

Just bought my first Land Rover, myself and my wife have recently moved back from Dubai after living there for 3 years.
Always loved the defenders! And I think I've found a really good one!!

I am the third owner from new, the first owner was the Police force, it was kitted out for surveillance work in the back. With a ladder fitted to the rear and checker plate on the roof with a hole cut out for an aerial of some sort?!
The second owner was an older gentleman who lived not too far from me and just used it pottering around now and then.
Over all the police force barely used it, 750 miles to be exact. The older gentleman put only 6100 since owning it from 2007.
I picked it up with just over 6900 miles on the clock, with all the old MOTs and services that match up. It was originally white, but the last owner had it resprayed in green.

I have a few things that I'd like to get done to it that I'll do over time. But first job is sorting out the small amount of blue smoke that comes out during the first 5/10 minutes of driving. I'm assuming it could be the valve stem seals, but not to sure yet.

Look forward to learning all I can about the defender here on this forum!!

Luke.

Thanks guys, just looked into those Skytag's.
They look pretty good! Need to get a list going on what needs to be done to it, security will be at the top!!

Pedal lock is the way to go.

PS don't forget to keep all your old newspapers, (for the oil leaks!) :)

Welcome to the Defender ....

Thanks for the replies guys!
The list is slowly growing, first things to address are:
Leaking Power Steering Box
Engine Lumpy on Start up in the mornings followed by a lot of smoking for the first 15 minutes of driving. I'm thinking this could be the Valve Stem Oil Seals. Might change the glow plugs too.
Change that god awful roof to a standard white one!
Any thoughts.

Welcome. The valve stem oil seals could be the culprit...from low mileage use. Looks like you have a good purchase. Enjoy.
