Hi guys my name is gaz from Shropshire I've bought me a cheap 03 plate 3.0 diesel bmw engine l322 that has been off the road a while not used for about 3 years anyway after getting it home and properly inspecting it the battery light was on and not charging the new battery fitted so after checking cables ect I've removed the alternator and now waiting on replacement but also I noticed the dreaded air suspension inactive on the dash its on its bumper stops and no action from the pump check fuses I put manual power to the pump through a battery and it started to work but cables from the battery started to get hot and the pump slowed down so I removed the air pipe from the motor and it worked perfectly so put the pipe back on and it over heating again like the air cannot get through something is stopping it im hoping it's something to do with the alternator but won't know until fitted im thinking there is a valve that stops the air flow any thoughts guys

Welcome, I'm sure an L322 guru will be on soon.
In the meantime, did it come with any sort of guarantee or warranty? If it is not fit for purpose, within a limited time period you could choose to reject the vehicle and return it.

I seam to remember of the l322 there is inlet filter on the pump that can block and should be replaced when the pump is refurbed but that may not be your problem others will know more.

The L322 has a solenoid valve inline to the tank. This needs to open for the compressor to fill the tank. System description is in the RAVE version that includes "New Range Rover".

The ECU uses corner valves & tank valve to raise the car, unless tank pressure is too low. In that case it also runs the pump. Lowering uses the corner valves & one of the pump assembly valves.

OK great and thanks for the time to send the info I appreciate it so its a valve stuck closed that seems to be the problem

You are going to have a very steep learning curve, and potentially a very expensive one. These vehicles are not for the faint hearted.

Well maybe or maybe not you people would probably totally disagree with me and be like what the hell you thinking fella but it has a good engine and box nothing wrong there good service oil change to box and engine replace brake pads and alternator very easy jobs its solid underneath might have bushes to change don't look bad to be fair brake pipes have all been cleaned the only expensive problem is the air suspension but after thinking I can buy a bypass kit off fleebay to pump the suspension up individually like car tyre valves they fit to the pipes just blow them up to a comfortable height I have replacement new bags if needed ok I totally agree it's not the done thing but saves paying out stupid money

You go for it. Plenty of help on here, even if we think you need your head sorting ;).
Cheers lol but once the alternator is fitted there maybe a chance after a reset the pump will spring into life as the old knackered alternator could of been playing havoc with the system

How do you know it is the alternator and not the energiser circuit?
I haven't a clue what a energiser circuit is or looks like to be fair mate im just thinking if the battery light stays on with a new battery fitted it's the alternator you know something I don't by the sounds of it

I suggest you find out what switches the alternator on and off, before condemning the one you have. It could be just a broken wire.
