So the dreaded drop arm ball joint job ... Old ball joint came out a absolute piece of cake. However fitting the new one was such a pain but it turns out the new Borg and beck ball joint is very poorly made threads on the ball are knackered and the bottom cover plate needed machining just to get it to even fit. Off to get another one tomorrow got a choice of another Borg and beck or all makes.

Anyone used all makes or is Borg and Beck normally good gear?

Yes bottom plate on borg a beck was **** poorly made crap.

I used old plate with new ball joint and drilled and tapped it for grease nipple

Sounds like they're just slap dash Chinese crap won't be buying anything branded by them again, going to speak to the Local LR parts dept tomorrow see if they can get me a genuine one

I find the tolerances are a bit variable. I fitted one about three years ago and it needed a bit of fettling to fit the hole in the drop arm. The plate at the bottom needed trimming, for example. I did it again just before Christmas and the new parts just slipped straight in, with a bottle jack under the assembly to press them home and compress the spring sufficiently to get the clip in. It's a bit of an (un)lucky dip.

I had a Borg and beck and found that the spring wasn't coiled right preventing the bottom plate going in. Eventually I reused my old spring and plate. When it goes again will go genuine.

I brought the tool from paddocks for a tenner makes it super quick.

Just a update bought a adwest kit today went it in about 30 mins perfect ! Dont buy Borg and beck it's really ****
