Hello,

Need a bit of advice. I've been to my local garage about a blowing noise when the turbo kicks in in the lower gears mainly two & three, sometimes fourth & I hear AND feel a vibration over the whistle of the turbo when it kicks in. Garage have advised (not Land Rover specialists) that it nay be hose but not sure which one, told me to drive it until it gets worse. The noise however is quite loud as it is. Also advise the you can purchase silicone hoses to replace the rubber ones that have gone really soft. There also seems to be a fair bit of black oil residue in & around these joints on the pipes. I've attached a few images. The garage haven't really given me much to go by tbh & I'm thinking if trying another garage that are familiar with LR (not main dealer). Do I buy silicone hose set & have them fit it? Do I fit it myself?

Thanks

Those do look like they're due a change, but don't forget the lower hoses on the intercooler. Aren't too bad to change yourself if you don't mind a bit of grease and grime, along with some scuffed knuckles. Also, a lot of muttered curse words. Remember to have hot water to hand to soften the hoses and some soapy water can help to slip them on.

All those boost hoses need replacing, as any one could be split or leaking. I can't understand how the garage can't tell you exactly which one though, as finding the issue takes just a few minutes, so find a better garage. It doesn't have to be an specific LR garage, just a good all makes garage. The Freelander 1 is made from an assortment of different vehicle parts, the engine being a BMW M47 for example.

Oh and the coolant reservoir needs replacing, as it's clearly suffering from micro-cracking, and it's out of coolant as a result, so get that replaced too.
