Hi all

I have a slow oil leak on driver side rear hub, I thought this might have been down to blocked breather on the rear axle.

Stupid question, how do I know if the breather is blocked? it was a bit gunked up when I took it off. I tried to blow it through after cleaning it up but couldn't. Should you be able to blow through it easily? I assume so...

Thinking about cutting the fitting off and a foot of pipe and replacing it. The pipe is 6mm isn't it?

just unscrew the bugger and replace it with nice shiny push fit connectors from rs :)

Been meaning to extend breathers anyway, so gives me a reason to sort it out.

Is the pipe 6mm outside diameter?? Just looking at the bits on fleabay

Yeah 6mm is outside diameter, watch out for cheap nylon pipe though if your searching on eBay, cheap nylon absorbs water and splits in poor conditions.

Hey All,

Never thought breathers would need maintenance but I guess on a Landy you gotta do everything at some point....

The breathers are on the axles and on the gearbox only or also elsewhere?

2 things I'd appreciate your guidance on:

-I noticed that the breather of the front axle got ripped off in my last trip: what do you recommend that I go for ? any recommended upgrade ? If no upgrade necessary is the part number FTC2175 correct for my front axle 64I 17310A?
-Shall I go for a like-for-like replacement or rather you suggest a wading kit? Any recommended? I found this one from terrafirma: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Terrafirm...ic-V8-TF167-/172294427450?hash=item281d8c533a which are complete new pipes, or Bearmach has this one extending the existing pipes: http://www.lrparts.net/bearmach-wading-kit-for-defender-and-discovery-200-300-tdi.html

thanks a lot!

Simone
