hi

I'm just wondering if anyone has advice on biodiesel? Can u run a 2.5diesel Range Rover 1998 on biodiesel? Cheers ry
 
You can essentially run any diesel vehicle on biodiesel.

Some early vehicles have issues with fuel lines and some seals failing due to the materials used intolerance to it however.
 
300tdi? if so, its fine, only problem thus far is changing leak offs every 18 months or so. I am led to beleive that in the long term (of in excess of 300K on bio) the seal in the injector pump will want changing, when it does, get a viton one fitted.

If it's properly refined bio diesel maybe OK apart from seals failing. If it's veg oil, used or unused, have a look at the grief it caused Johnny crash.:eek:
 
one should be sure you are on about bio and not veg oil. (as many people make that mistake)

They certainly do.
There are no filling stations near me that actually sell bio.
You may need to change your fuel filter after running bio for a while.
 
I am coming up to two years of running TD5 on true biodiesel-no issue thus far,previously ran a 300tdi for 2-3 years and yes had to change injection pump drive end seal when it failed.But at 15p per litre,cost savings are massive,already gone past the break even point for TD5 purchase.
 
Does anyone know of a biodiesel supplier in wiltshire? i cant find any?
For some reason bio isn't readily available nationaly.
Supermarkets did start selling it a few years ago but stopped as quick as they started, mainly due to lack of demand.
I'm lucky as there is a WVO professional processer near me, the next nearest is over 100 miles away
 
P38 diesel is the BMW M51 engine and will run on veg oil but is better on full bio.
I ran mine on it for about 20k and the guy who has it now has put at least another 30k on it with out issue.
You should change your fuel filter after about 2k or so after starting to use bio as it will clean all the crap out of the tank and fuel lines.

My Disco was owned by the guy that now has everlate's P38, it's covered just shy of 100K on bio (I still run it on bio) and the only bio related problem has been the pump shaft seal.

You may find it hard to find bio on the forecourt, this is due to quite high production costs (buying in used oil, chemicals, staff, duty ect), this will be made harder now pump diesel is cheaper than recent years.

Bio diesel in it's literal meaning, is an organic based refined product from palm oil or rapeseed for example. This is not on any forecourt I've seen.
Most bio diesel available is made from WVO (waste veg oil) and should be made to a specific high quality.
SVO (straight veg oil) is another kettle of fish and should be researched thoroughly before use.

Let me correct that for you,Biodiesel is F.A.M.E. (Fatty Acid Methyl Esters) of any vegetable oil or animal oil.But Not from mineral oil.
Biodiesel has a much lower molecular weight than the parent oil and is hence much less viscous and has a lower melting point than the parent oil.

SVO whether used or new is just SVO.

Both fall under the bio fuel umbrella.
