Hi,

I have a problem with the binnacle lights on our 2002 D2 TD5.

When you turn the lights on, there is a delay of some minutes before the back lights to the binnacle illuminate. Sometimes they illuminate on side lights then go out when you switch on to dipped beam, eventually coming on after a while.

Is there a relay for this that might be sticky? Could it be the headlight stalk switch?

It doesn't appear to be a local dodgy connection, as exuberant whacking of the binnacle top has no effect.

Any thoughts?

Maybe it's a British word. The binnacle is the thing that surrounds the clocks, with the fog lights, petrol (gas)/diesel flap opener switches etc. on it.

Without getting into the semantics of what's a binnacle and what's a dash, I think the OP's trouble is the back-light in what LR call the instrument pack.

From what I can see on Rave, there's no relay involved, just the wiring to the various lights everywhere. You'll find that almost all of the wires are coloured Bed/Brown.

I don't know whether your Disco model has a variable dimmer for the instrument illumination, if it does then that would be the first place to look. If not then I would be looking at the connections at the back of the fuse board behind the panel under the steering wheel.
