Hi, my kids want me to lug their bikes around on the back of my disco td5, does anyone know of a decent carrier type that would do the job (without damaging the vehicle), also may need info on where to obtain and connect loom for electrics if I have to have a lighting / no.plate board fitted behind the bikes, thats assuming there is a ready made socket to plug into somewhere at the back end of the vehicle. Any advice much appreciated....:) .

Hi,

How many bikes are you talking about.

I use a paddy hopkirk unit that hangs on the rear wheel, will only carry 2 bikes, available from Halfords.

Used to have a TDi that had a Simbar 4 bike rack, it had a mount behind the spare wheel with a bar through the center of the spare wheel. The rack then slipped on the bar and attached with a padlock. Still able to open rear boor with bikes attached.

Lighting board should plug into towbar electrics.
If you do not have a towbar yet, then you will need a socket fitted.

Thanks for the reply Dor1s, 2 bikes are what i need to carry, so will have a look at paddy hopkirk one, with regard to towing socket, I was wondering if it was just a case of buying a kit and plugging it into a ready made connector in the car, like on frreelanders apparently, or do all the connections have to be found and made separately on the disco 2.Best Rgds.:)

Hi, yes Disco 2 does have the towbar electric connector, I cannot remember which side but is part of the wiring loom just behind the rear lights.

Hi the connetor for tow bar is located behind the offside rear pillar light, remove light and the connector is fixed to panel by a plastic clip, hope this helps tiga

Thanks tiga, will have a look for it, can you get a kit from l/r to plug into it, ( towing socket and wiring ). rgds.

Hi yes landrover sell the towing sockets already to plug in so no cutting or splicing can be fitted in 20 mins so worth the money, tiga
