So I am running my disco 1 300 tdi on 235 75 16's. I have 235 85 16's to put on the same wheels. I don't have a lift kit. So I'm wondering what cuts need to be made to the body work... And how you cover this. For example when you fit flexi arches. You completely cover any cuts you have made. I don't have a lift kit. It is running on normal shocks and springs.

I cut the bottom off the front bumper ends, the rest of the arch was OK. At the rear cut the rear of the wheel arch to about an inch or two towards the back and about 10 " up the arch .. see the pic, red lines show where I cut mine ... Pic is not my old Disco, just one off t'interweb ..

Thanks for that. I'm running a HD Winch bumper. So hopefully don't need to cut that. If it's just that small amount. Be an easy job with angle grinder. I was just thinking about how to keep it tidy. Or how to tidy it up after.

I used some rubber edging stuff from the caravan, but it came off pretty quickly, so I didn't bother after that!

I'd guess you could cut a little less and bend it over, similar to a 'proper' edge ....

This also depends on the type of tyres, rims and intended use.

If you don’t go off road, are on standard LR rims with a road or AT tyre. Then you may need to cut less.

The ‘camel cut’ on the rear arch is common. As the wheel will impact it off road. But if you don’t off road it might not be an issue. Bumper end caps may need removing completely or an aftermarket bumper.

As for cutting the body work. It depends how tidily you can to/are able to do. Fitting flares will cover up the cuts well. But doesn’t mean it is a tidy job. Cutting is easy, making it tidy is actually quite an art.

Not all tyres are equal and big knobbly off road tyres might require the entire arch to be cut away. And most aftermarket flares will require this else look silly.

3 door bodies are arguably easier than 5 door bodies to cut, due to the rear doors.

With appropriate cutting you can fit 34” tall tyres on a stock suspension D1.
