Hi all
Im currently doing some research for my next tyres....
My 110 hi cap came half warn BFG AT @ 285/75/16
About 2 years ago i replaced the fronts with KUMO MT's ( :wh :bum Yes i know running different tyres and cheap one at that, but they were the same Od and all i could afford at the time)
Im now at a stage where the tyres will pass the MOT but id say not make it past Feb/March!?
SO the big decision is what to go for next
My criteria
1. Nice and tall to alter the gearing and try and improve MPG (bearing in mind, after getting up to date with my account/books, just worked out ive spent £4600 on diesel over the last 8 months!!)
2. Quiter would be nice (not that any landy is quiet :doh2)
3. Good mileage potential
4. Peace of mind that im not going to get stuck.
Now if im totally honest the Kumo's i have had on the front have been a lovley tyre, have worn the same rate as the BFG MT's on the 'other 110'. They are how ever a softer tyre and have less ply in the walls. think only 2 or 3?
SO although ive not have any issues with them, i think i will go back to BFG.
Maybe im being a snob or following the trend, but id say 85% of folk have BFG and rate them so they must be good, also on a shallow note i do like the look of them on a landy.
Ive just got a price on 8 BFG MT's @ 285/75/16 from my local trade supplier. Have been quoted £119.65 + VAT each!!??
So basically £1000 for the 2 sets plus £30 for my mate to fit and ballence them.
Do i go back to the At's, bearing in mind people say they are better for MPG (although im not convinced) but also run the risk of rendering the hicap useless of road, as i got stuck a few times with the AT's on.
Im a builder, so although 90% is tarmac, when i do go off road i need to know i'll be ok pulling a digger and trailer or a ton of sand across a field!!! :??
Also my big concern is buying a tyre which is taller, im not fussed about loosing a bit of width. but the taller the tyre the better MPG as far as im concerned. THe hi cap had the heavy duty rear so lots of room at back and the front will have a 2"+ lift (as hicaps always sit nose down!! :mm). so clearence is not an issue.
Im sure everyone will give different answers rendering the thread in conclusive, but if i could maybe get some accurate informaion, hopefully i will be able to make an educated guess as to what to do.
