for my little trip which u may have read about. if not i'm going to Timbuktu. any ideas on the best tryes?? and also is a winch necessary? or just sand boards and a jack?? Any other kit advies wouldn't go a miss.

I would suggest an all terain radial type tyre for the ammount od road you'l be covering.

A wintch in the desert, ware you gona hook it to.

Youll need a cupple of jerry cans to carry the extra fuel and fresh water containers.

get some sand ladders or waffle boards too. high lift and a jack base. also some extra extra long tow staps. you dont know how far it will be before you find ground good enough to hold your ground anchor.

make sure you mark your fuel and water containers up, keep them seperate. dont want to be mixing those up! ;)

AT's which are wide to distribute the load over the sand.

you could always tatch your winch to a camel then kick it in the bollocks , that'll get you out !

i've just googled winch bollocks and i don't think they do have em , but camels do ,so, you could try kicking his bollocks and see what happens .
god i'm bored !!!

i think most of us dint have to google it to know that a winch dunt have bollocks. maybe you need to read a few more books like.....fer instance...

Cheers guys. so big fat wide but not too wide tyres AT or WT and also wots that largest u can fit on a standard rim??????

i'd go for 750x16's they are about the bigest you will manage without any stupid alterations, althought you will have to alter the stops on the swivels so they dont catch the chassis.

You got an overdrive?

Ah yes i see ur an old timer. was looking at Colway MT's. think the should do?? not gonna break the bank and sound pretty solid

I have looked at those. But they seem a bit expensive for what i'll be using them for. ok i'm driving like 7000 miles and need something good. but its all about budget. i don't think anything can be as bad as whats on there at the momenet. I think they are the originals

they look a bit tack. thanks though. i know its not a bout looks but its either the generals or some colway AT's depends on how much cash i can find. saying that i might need the cash sooner as the mot is thursday.
