Guys,

I need your advise on which are the best shocks and springs to go in for my defender 110, 1990 with a 200tdi.

My first option was OME for both. Second was Terrafirma. I have heard a lot of IRONMAN4X4, how are they? Can some of the forum members suggest a few brands! Money is not an issue. Quality is the utmost importance.

Plan on adding a big ARB bull bar + Warn Powerplant HD upfront. Plus my spare tyre is also on the bonnet. Plan on adding a spare rear wheel carrier and having another spare tyre on that too.

Do some offroadin but mostly 80% road, 20% offroading. Also plan on getting a RTC steering damper. Are these available with OME?
 
I believe standard genuine springs and dampers are as good as most of us will ever need.
If you need tougher suspension then you are either a serious professional offroader, or your doin summat wrong.
Or you just like the look of it.

I have just gone for genuine springs and Monroe gas shocks and a super gaz steering damper. Not fitted yet but I opted for a 'normal' set up as heavy duty would make the road ride too harsh. If you dont rag it off road a standard set up should be fine.
Spend money on underbody protection

.... just noted you are adding a winch and wheel to the front, that extra weight could mean you should consider heavy duty. Someone will advise... Old Man Emu are very good. Do your homework.... this is a big decision. Use the 'search' option top right and you will find lots on this subject
 
Dunno about other brands, but if you go for Terrafirma, they do 'light', 'medium', and 'heavy' duty kits for approx £200, so you can get the ride just right for your vehicle.

Nothing against the quality of Terrafirma products, but I am suspecious of 'light/medium/heavy' as a measure of springs. It is a pretty good starting point, but IME you eventually end needing to know spring rates/poundages and free lengths to get the correct setup.

True, but for a regular punter like myself who doesn't really understand spring rates etc or how they apply to my vehicle, it's a nice system. They have diagrams which show you examples of a light, medium and heavy load on your vehicle, which is helpful. Why are you suspicious?
 
Only because they are relative terms rather than absolutes. How does the 'light' kit compare to standard fitment for example. That is the only reason :)

I see. Not really sure to be honest, but the describe it as 'a kit that will provide 2" of lift on a vehicle with a light load (approx 300kg) on board.' Sometimes relative terms are more helpful than absolute values imo :D
