im thinking about getting a 300tdi defender engine put in to replace my 2.5td, but what benifits would it give me? ive never drove a 300tdi, also i wanna add that my 2.5td is mechanically sound, and the 300tdi engine ive got lined up has no history with it and has 120k on clock
cheers for any replys

Bloody brilliant!

But if your 2.5TD is fine then keep the 300tdi aside for a project and fit it one day.

The 300tdi will seem like a warp engine, it's smoother, faster, more reliable, quieter and better MPG.

As they say if it ain't broke don't fix it. I changed to my 300tdi because my 2.5 was giving me some bother and the 300 was available at the time, so I did it and I am glad I did.

It pulls up hills no bother from 20mph in 4th, it pulls like a train.

i kept putting off my transplant and kept repairing the td but eventually went for the 200 tdi..its like a feckin rocket compared to the td and offroad in low box most hills are now done in 3rd and 4th with no probs, much more refined than the td.the td is basically a n/a 2.5td with a turbo bunged on it this is why they had loads of reliability issues with the td..if you can afford it do it is my advice

Guys, I am thinking of rebuilding my 2.5 N/A or should I just plonk in a 200TDI or a 300 TDi into my Defender 110. How easy is it to plonk in a 300TDI/200TDI? Are there any major mods to be carried out?

Are these 200TDI/300TDi engines available?

200 is easier, i changed mine with nothing wrong with the TD and haven't looked back - best move ever, tis great! 300 is a bit fiddlier - new engine mounts, different gearbox etc. but can be done

i rekon they are about the same fiddlyness. You gotta fit one new mount for the 300, but you gotta drop the rad mounts anyway, so you've already got the welder out.

The 300 does fit a LT77 box, iv'e done it.

You dnt need an expensive exhaust thingy for a 300 either.

all the bits are there to do the swap including gear box's, would it add value to the vehicle if i did this? and is it true ill get better mpg?

it would add some value, yes, depending on how neat a job the swap was.

better MPG, yes, but that may not be noticed, as it depends on how much you like the HOOGE power increase :D
