Judging by the squeal, the bearing of (at least) one of the pulleys looped by the alternator/etc belt of my Disco 1 300tdi is worn. Is there any way of identifying which one without major dismantling? And if I have to replace it, will it be necessary to remove the radiator first? I suspect there are no short cuts...Thanks!

As said try the penny trick , undo the belt tensioner & put a penny in the 9'oclock position & tighten back up. 15mm ring spanner , if that don't stop it replace the tensioner. Cheap & easy , you don't need to do anything to the radiator.

But you do need to remove the viscous fan.

No, just the plastic cowl

There's the hard way and the easy way of doing something.

If you remove the fan, you can then directly deal with the tensioner.

How are you going to remove the plastic cowl on a TDi 300, with the fan in place?

Maybe the wrong word , I meant the plastic cover on top of the fan. I did mine in 20 mins with the fan in
