Can anyone tell me the size of the nuts and bolts for the bell housing on a series 2 a please?

I would take one out and pop down to your local good hardware / small engineering works and ask them.

From memory they're M10 on a 19J engine.

am sure thur 3/8 unf or is it unc, no its unf, oh fook it might be unc

I like my plan Find a nut that fits.
Assuming that no one has f**k around with it befor.

According to the book the original bolts would have been on a 2 /2a 2.25 petrol.
3/8 UNF x 1 3/4 long and 3/8 UNF x 1 1/8 long

The threads in the flywheel housing are 3/8 unc, the threads on the other end of the studs are 3/8 unf, and therefore so are the nuts.
