Hi All,

I just went out in my 1989 90 2.5td CSW and we got to our destination, I turned the ignition off and removed the key, and the battery warning light came on and stayed on. I checked that all the lights etc were switched off, and decided to disconnect the battery so that I wouldn't return to the car later and find a flat battery.

I connected the battery again 2 hours later, and the battery light came on. It started fine, and all lights went out for the journey home.

Now that I am back I have put the car out of the way, and left it with the battery light permanently on. I am not sure if it will drain down the battery, and if so, how quickly before it becomes flat.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

a family memeber once had this problem on a micra and it was the alternator at fault and it drained the battery after a few hours

I had something similar on my 300TDi that was draining the battery when everything was off, as above it turned out to be alternator.

Thanks captain and jackmac I think you are spot on. I just went and unplugged the alternator and the light went out. Does this mean it is the alternator or could it just be a poor earth?

Hi smiley, thanks for the info. Where can I get one of those, and would you be able to send me a link so that I can see what it is?

Got mine from Paddock spares,

Index of /landrover/parts_books/110

This link gives you all part numbers for all landy bits, if you cant find the part numbers let me know and I will look them up for you.

I also replaced the alternator for £43 + VAT which I fitted so now have a spare.
