Hi all..I have a 90 with a 300tdi and when I put it into diff lock the battery light comes on faintly with the diff lock light...has anyone had this problem or any ideas where the fault may be..

The difflock unit goes through the 1.2W warning light to the connector C230-4 There is a join, to the left of the warning light, that goes up to the ignition/battery warning light. This warning light seems to take it's supply from the same connector (C230-4) Someone who knows what they're talking about might be able to tell you why the battery light is glowing. I presume when the difflock connection is 'made', this is allowing a small amount of current to be drawn down through that lamp. There's a diode to the alternator and an inline resistor that goes back to the header, maybe one of these is breaking down? I don't know, but hope this helps.
 
I've had this problem for ages. It doesn't appear to affect anything (It probably does, but not enough to notice) so I chased it for a while, cleaning and replacing earths etc (I'm pretty thick at electrics so it's all belt and braces stuff) to no effect! I've left it ... but I'll watch this thread now .. ;)
