My Bosch silver battery seems to have given up the ghost. Now I know the last chap bought it and he bought the car in 8/08. These batteries have a 4 or 5 year guarantee but of course I don't have a receipt.

So does anyone know if:
the guarantee is valid at any Bosch dealer
can they tell how old it is by the markings on the battery itself?

from memory the battery I fitted you scrap out month and year- check on top

No - the guarantee is not valid at all Bosch dealers. In fact most will not honour a warrantee without proof of purchase. This is because there has been a spate of peeps getting batteries from car dumps and trying to get a refund or new battery in exchange :(.

yes - there are date markings on all batteries.

I reckon your best bet is to contact Bosch directly and see if they will help.

they are complete ****ers with the warrenty. I bought a £90 exide 4 year jobby for my bmw from motorworld.

it was fecked after 1.5 years , took it back , motorworld ltd doesnt exist nowits m/w kingsway or summit. no warrenty will be honoured

tried 15 differnt phone numbers and email addresses trying to get exide uk , finally after many calls and arguments I got £50 out of them.

My policy now, buy the cheapest battery you can and bin it when it doesnt work

I agree entirely, many of the 3 (or more) year warranties are misleading in as much as the supplier will only replace the battery if it fails within 12 months - after that they will sell you a new one at a price calculated as a percentage of the remaining unexpired warranty.
