Before winter I need to get a new battery for Discovery it's an N reg (1996) 2.5 TDI what is the best one to get and any one know of good suppliers in the Greater Manchester area?

Cheers for any info.

If your after a standard battery then pop along to Halfords and get an 072 battery, my Lucas battery is just over 6 years old and still going strong so I think thats good.

Or you can go for a Deep Cycle ie Optima which will have thicker plates if you have a need for this type of battery but will cost about £40 more.

Ferric ChlorideAfter driving for about six hours, a trucker decides to pull over and sleep for a little while. As soon as he falls asleep, he is awoken by some knocks on the door of the cab. "Can you tell me the time, please?" asks a jogger. "Yeah, it's 4:30," answers the trucker. He falls asleep again, but he is awoken again by another jogger who wants to know the time. "It's 4:40!" yells the trucker. Deciding to really try to sleep a little, he writes on a piece of paper: 'I don't know the time.' He sticks the paper to his windshield. But he is awoken again -- "It's 5:25," says another jogger. antiscaling

Think you posted in the wrong section :p

the above is good advise if you have money to waste

find your nearest agricultural supplier (farmers store) and buy the biggest tractor battery that will fit in your battery box and then go to the pub and drink the £60 saved

Cheers discool for the info, Sean I'm 6 miles from Manchester city centre we are a bit short of tractor batteries around here :) Would of not though they would fit to be honest

i wasnt expecting there to be one on yer doorstep, but if you can't be arsed to travel a few miles in order to save 50 to 60 quid that's down to you

if you dont think a tractor battery will fit just go to Halfords and empty yer wallet, it's your money what do i care

Or just go down to your local small motor factor who will have any number of batteries for half the price of halfrauds.

I've given up tellin people about Tractor Universal Oil as well Sean.

If yer dunt like it, ignore it - it's better than a no reply. ;)

Yep I always get my batteries from our local farmers (countryside) store. They are about half the price and last just as long. Tractor batteries come in all shapes and sizes, but must of these places also sell land rover batteries because they go hand in hand with farm life.

I'd never even thought of using tractor oil / batteries etc and i'm in norfolk where we've got more tractor suppliers than you can shake a big 'airy stick at. Is the oil just as good for engine etc?

I promise any advice you give me will be taken with utmost gratitude:p:p:p
