Hi h ave a 5 door freelander and i have recently installed a 12" subwoofer in the back of the car, my problem is that since there are tweeters at the front of the car the sound at the front is 'just right' however in the back the shound is very 'thumpy' and annoying. i was wondering how others managed to fit their 6x9's or other speakers into their freelanders because the parcel shelf is made from leather in this car. Thanks for helping

You can do the sound in a freelander justice just by upgrading the speakers and lining the doors with sound deadening.
I know peeps have fitted subs to the stowage compartment in the boot floor. Its good for compacted air space giving better speaker suspension.
Had a Nakamichi stereo in the hippo - sound was amazing but something happen the heads and too much to repair
If you are gonna fit 6x9 in the parcel shelf then make one out of MDF and spray paint it to match colour of trim

Am i being obtuse here - but why bovver - its a car! if yu want hi-fi get yaself a room.
but Laser - yu will never get good reproduction in a car - the acoustics are about the worst you can get - lots of sound deadening furnishings - a local sound source and resonances to kill anything. All yu will get is massive bass. If you have ever conducted frequency response tests in a car you will realise that it is a waste of time. Loud yes - faithfull reproduction - never.

er . . . .whot like er disco. . . . .smirki am into my cars buti dont go fitting tub thumping stereos or whatever you call em these days, and lets face it, if you were really into cars, you wouldnt drive a freelander
Im pretty sure i will be able to get good sound reproduction, the problem only arises because in the back the speakers are lower to the floor and there are no tweeters, making bass in the back more profound than the rest of the music. (which is my complaint) all i will have to do is install two 6x9's in the back and it will be fine. I have had cars like this previously and i managed to attain adequate sound reproduction.

The speakers in the doors are special fit only because LR shaped the holes that way... just to be awkward. You can trace the original speaker chassis and fabricate one out of MDF. Any upgrade to a decent brand of after market speaker will enhance the sound, the original paper cone speakers are crap!
Any sound deadening of the heavy rubber based stuff is good. Line door skins and speaker surrounds. You can get extra foam sound deadening for the bulkhead on the Freelander (not the No More Gaps method by MHM)
The front speaker in the FL are component speakers. This means that a cross over box is wired from the head unit to separate low and high range frequencies. I went to upgrade the tweeters in the front doors only to find LR had only fitted one during maunufacture, passenger side was blank.
Some 6x9 are 3-way, bass, mid and treble from same speaker. go for these on the parcel shelf.
