hi everyone, i need help with my 110 defender 300tdi it has a real problem with backlash, it engages drive lovely and clutch is smooth, but everytime i put my foot on the accelarator pedal and take it off i get a massive jolt and a knocking noise, its viscous, i have had the halfshafts replaced, propshaft is fine no play, A frame replaced and had crown pinion in diff replaced. a land rover specalist has looked over it and says the problem comes down to general wear and tear, is this correct as the general condition of the vehicle is good. please help what could it be, sorry if i have got mechanical parts or words wrong, trying to learn. Thanks for your time.

My disco does the same, it makes speed bumps entertaining :) I just alter my driving to compensate.

yeah it does u never know what it might do at the next bump, should be entertaing when i take her off roading, just hope it does not affect the performance.

hi thanks for your input. no i have not checked the diff output flanges, is that a common problem, what am i looking for. i have had this problem for a while and varous mechanics have looked at it one said that the transfer box needed replacing but all of the others said that my problem was not the trasnfer box, how would i tell if i needed a new one 'hope not there bloddy exspensive' i have heard that there is a certain gear linkage in the transfer box which often wears out should i get that looked at. thanks for your help.
