Hi

after a few years living in the city, now back in the country with space I am on the hunt for what seems to be on everyone’s list. An early defender or 90.

I viewed one today but it had rot and more issues than I was willing to tackle.

So hopefully be around here more regularly and if anyone has any intel on a purchase let me know. I’m in East Sussex.
Have a good day.

What engine you after?

Thanks. Will do. Currently debating over a couple of 200tdi 90s (one being a conversion from the 2.5 to 200tdi). Just can’t believe what I might spend for a 30 year old vehicle!

Welcome to 90/110 and Defender ownership! Prices shot up following the end of production and haven’t really gone down. However, it might be best to buy after the winter as everyone wants a 4x4 for the snow!

Conversions are okay, but it is hard to make all the plumbing and trunking look right.
Sometimes it is better to buy the right vehicle in the first place even if it is more expensive, as that cheaper one might end up costing you more in the long run.

Hi all. Well I found one and I am now a happy 90 owner.

1987 200tdi conversion. Properly maintain and an excellent chassis. Few things to fiddle with but otherwise I think a good find.

got big meaty off road tyres which I suspect I will change for standard ones.
Very pleased.

Well done :)on your wise purchase, just in time for the snow!
Owning a older 90 there will be times when you want to cry but overall you will be smiling; love them or hate them simples :D
Pictures please.....great about the chassis as that's the biggest concern.
Another 90 in East Sussex  we might see each other! Mine's in the avatar, 1985 (88 reg) 90 CSW, was 2.5 petrol now 3.5 V8 auto (ex Disco 1).
Good luck and happy driving ;)

Hi sorry for the delay but with snow and flu I haven’t don’t much. Have managed to get to places others couldn’t this week in her which has been great.

Such fun to drive and getting used to some quirks!

any way, here is a picture

Seems that way. Has been starting and driving fine.
Need to put some protection underneath to stop mud flying all over the chassis and change window seals. Thinking of mud guards and protectors.

have noticed a small hole under the passenger seat which I am sure will need a patch soon.

otherwise in terms of what to do first as a new Land Rover owner I would welcome any views. I don’t want to wait and fix things when they break so would prefer to be proactive.

I am paranoid as I am sure everyone is at this time of year about water and rust.
