Having sacrificed my beloved Overfinch Disco 1 to the build of my monster 6.3 landy - and also selling my beautiful blue Jap import with top-hat V8 for 3.5 k to fund a set of ridiculously expensive alloys for that project - I have found the last 10 months without a disco somewhat challenging to say the least.
As the dog ain't allowed in my wife's TT, or the 6.3 landy, or my A6, she hasn't been out much.................
I have also twice rented a van to take rubbish to the dump.................and once to take some parts to Ashcrofts transmissions....................
Then I realise winter is coming and I have already spent over 200 quid since september on having the 90 washed and cleaned as I can't stand to see it dirty!
So i said 'Phucket' (as they say in Thailand) 'Not puttin up with this nonsense any more'

So I have got me a lovely mulberry-coloured V8 Auto with superb cloth interior, sequential LPG with underslung tanks, fresh(35000 miles) RPi engine with top hat liners, tow pack, lovely firestyles with BFG ATs all round, cross-drilled discs and greenstuff pads, recent shocks and springs, new exhaust,fully serviced and with a big box of new and used spares, Overfinch steering wheel, 6 months MOT and Tax...............for 1625 pounds plus a 20 quid train ticket.
Having got it home and put it up on the ramp I can say I am delighted - hardly any corrosion(a bit inside the nearside front wing, a couple of spots on the rear door arches and the usual scratches and dents on a 20 year-old car).
The steering was a bit woolly - sorted with the usual squirt of duck oil on the UJ's - and a new PAS hose will be needed as there is a small drip from where it joins the pump.
There is a weep on the nearside valve cover and the timing needed slight adjustment.
It goes very well - even on gas - and tracks true and straight - at 80 just a tiny bit of wind noise.
corners really flat and now the UJs are not sticky steering matches.
So here is the plan:
1. I have my old Tornado ECU chip waiting to fit - also from disco 3.9 auto -allows 32 Degrees of advance at 3500 rpm - gives a lot better fuel economy when cruising and about 10% more power.
2. Fit a Viper Hurricane cam and new lifters - gives extra 22 bhp and 25lbs torque on average
3. fit hedman manifolds and sports exhaust.
4. full waxoyl
The dog is happy because she can now come out with me to the shop, the garage, the dump, the woods, school etc.
My daughter is happy because she loves old discos and it has loads of room.
My wife is happy because I can now stop moaning about selling the most useful vehicle we ever had.
